Everything You Need to Know About Custom Tarps
A tarp is usually defined as a heavy-duty, waterproof piece of material but is that all it is? Is that where the definition should end? In fact, there is always more to it.
Every tarp is individual in some form or another. The devil is in the details, as the old saying goes. There are many variables that go into making a tarp from size and shape to material type, securing type, and level of durability.
Whether you need industrial tarp shelters, pallet covers, or farm shelter covers, choosing a custom tarp for your project is almost always better than getting a standard, pre-made one.
Below we take a closer look at the reasons to choose custom-made tarps, and how it can be an advantage for different industries.
Reasons to choose custom made tarps
At Westarp, we offer custom tarps as standard. When someone makes an enquiry with us, we get to know the finer details of their application before designing and manufacturing a tarp that meets their needs.
Here are 5 reasons why custom made tarps are the way to go:
- Purpose designed and manufactured
Custom tarps are designed and manufactured with the exact details of your application in mind. That means you will be getting a product that fits exactly and performs how it should when installed.
With pre-made tarps, you often have to compromise on performance as they have to be adapted to your situation. However, custom-made tarps will fit like a glove and meet your exact needs.
- Greater durability and lifespan
Tarps that are not purpose-built for the project may suffer more wear and tear when installed. However, custom tarps are made to be effective and avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
For example, tarps that are going to be used as hay coverings should be purposely designed to protect the hay from the sun, moisture, and strong winds. By customizing the tarp to meet the demands of the climate, it will suffer less wear and do its job properly for years.
- Handling tough environments
Custom tarps are made to cope with the demands of the specific environment they are going to be used in. That may mean they need to cope with intense sun, dust, wind, rain, and even fire in some cases.
Choosing custom means you can control how tough the fabric is and what properties it has. Look for tarps that are waterproof (not water-resistant) with high UV ratings and a design that can withstand strong winds. Poly and PVC tarps tend to be the most durable and heavy-duty.
- Ease and efficiency
Custom-designed tarps should improve the ease and efficiency of installation and day-to-day use. A good designer will keep in mind what you need the tarp to achieve and work to incorporate those needs into the design.
By choosing a high-quality custom design, you can save time and effort installing, removing, or replacing the tarp according to your needs.
- Higher quality
When you choose custom, you get greater control over the materials used and the final design. This means you can control for quality and make sure that you get a tarp that will perform well.
At Westarp, we offer 3 heavy-duty fabrics and a wide range of extra features that can be included in the design.Â
Whether you know exactly what you want or need some guidance from our experts, you can be sure that you’re getting the highest quality tarp or industrial tarp shelter.
Custom pallet tarps for the construction industry
What if the tarp you need is required to fit snugly over a pallet of goods? Are you just expecting a piece of fabric to just sit nicely and not go anywhere?Â
Depending on your specific application, there are many different designs that can easily achieve what you need. For example, you could take the piece of fabric, add a couple of eyelets around the bottom and run some rope through to tighten it off.Â
Alternatively, if the pallet is cube-shaped in nature, you can create a box out of your material and run velcro down aside to seal it or go around the pallet with straps and buckles.
There are plenty of ways to cover pallet goods, you just have to get a little creative with a few extra add-ons to make that tarpaulin a tarp that will work to the fullest extent of its capabilities.
Tarps for the transport and logistics industry
Custom tarps are often used to cover tipper trailers while the trucks are in motion, driving between sites. None of those tarps you see while driving down the highway will ever be without a roller pipe or track mounting it to the bin.
These tarps are made to suit the specific requirements of the bin and the driver, be it a pocket to allow for a roller pipe to slide in nicely or a rope edge to suit an aluminium track mounted to the side of the bin.
Truck tarps can also have a double thickness (reinforcements) added to the tarp itself to help withstand potential wearing caused by the bin’s crossbars. These custom design elements will improve durability and extend the lifespan of the tarp.
Custom tarps for the farming and agriculture industry
For shelter stations out on farms or in depots, custom-designed tarps perform the best. Tarp buildings and industrial tarp shelters will often have pockets running the full length and width to allow for framework bars to slip through and hold the tarp down.
There will also be straps and ropes sewn into the hems to allow for tying off all over the structure to ensure the roof stays on even in the strongest of winds.
Tarp shelters are often used as a long-term storage solution for agricultural products and therefore should be made with fabrics that offer weather protection to help protect whatever is inside from UV rays, rain, and moisture issues.
Advertising with industrial tarp shelters
For an extra piece of creative input, why not add a logo or company banner on your custom-made tarp?Â
That way you can advertise your brand for passing traffic to see, whether that’s on a tarp building, the side of a truck, or other fabric structure. Printing your logo on an industrial tarp cover is a great way to spread awareness about your brand.
Custom tarps are only limited by your imagination. Take that lone piece of tarpaulin and make it work for you and all your needs. Custom tarps can be anything you want them to be.
What’s the process of ordering a custom tarp?
The custom tarp ordering process isn’t difficult. You will need to know the type and size tarp you want as well as the particular fabric you want it to be made from. You can also specify the type of hem and reinforcement you need, along with any additional features you want to be included.
When you send an enquiry, it can be helpful to attach some photographs or drawings to demonstrate what you need. If you are unsure about anything, the experts at Westarp can talk you through the different options and offer advice based on your unique requirements.
